Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard has a monster serve. And the numbers back it up. The Frenchman hit 153 on the radar gun during his first-round tilt with Taylor Fritz on Monday, which is the fastest officially recorded serve in Wimbledon history.
Mpetshi Perricard's serve is already listed as the ninth-fastest recorded serve of all-time, and the fastest at the majors, in Wikipedia. According to Wikipedia, the list is not “historically complete."
The Frenchman hit 33 aces and won the first two sets against Fritz, but the American hit back levelling the match at two sets apiece before play was suspended for the evening
The suspension of play was controversial, as there was still 40 minutes left until the tournament curfew when the fourth set ended. Fritz, who had captured the final two sets, wanted to continue, but it was ruled that play be stopped by tournament officials at the end of the set, rather than potentially being forced to stop at a more critical juncture of the fifth set
The pair will play tomorrow on Court 1, second match, not before 2:30.
